I'll be at a few upcoming conventions, so if you want my latest work or a signed compy, this is where you want to be!
The summer is the top time for sci-fi and comic conventions, and I'll be at a handful over the next few months. I love going to conventions and talking to people about why they're there and what they love about geek culture.
“Signing books is fun, but when you talk to people and find out what they love and what excites them about sci-fi and fantasy, that's when you start having a blast.”
So just in the next few weeks I'll be at Salt Lake Gaming Con June 27 - 29, Spike Con July 5 - 7, MyCon August 17 - 19, and even Comic & Gaming Con in Wyoming in October.
Conventions are a unique experience when you're selling stuff. I don't know about you, but I hate being sold. and I hate selling too, which is a problem when you're there to sell books. What I've found is that by simply interacting with people as they walk by, talking, saying hi, I can get people to stop and talk. They don't always buy my books, but I'm able to have a conversation and learn more about them.
That's what makes these appearances enjoyable for me.
Signing books is fun, but when you talk to people and find out what they love and what excites them about sci-fi and fantasy, that's when you start having a blast. I've learned things about people that would blow your mind. I've laughed with people and even cried with people. Their stories are every bit as engaging as what I've put on the page in my novels.
I love going to shows for this reason. If you ever find yourself at one, come by and see me. I'd love to hear your story too.
